Configuring Agent 1.X

Setup and Configuration

  1. Obtain Agent by visiting Forté Inc.  
    You will need to obtain a registration code and register your copy of Agent.
  2. Install into the directory of your choice
    ( i.e. C:/program files/agent/ ).
  3. Create a directory for the decoded attachments to go to.
    ( C:/Download/ ).
  4. Create a directory for the temporary attachments to go to.
    ( C:/Download/Temp ).
  5. Start Agent 1.5.
  6. Select from the Options menu User and System Profile.
  7. Configure your User Information profiles.
    1. Select the User tab.
    2. Complete all fields with the appropriate information.
    3. Check Server Requires Authorization Login.
    4. Enter your C.I.T. Username.
    5. Check Remember Password Between Sessions.
    6. Enter your C.I.T. Password.
  8. Configure your NNTP News server address and SMTP E-Mail Host.
    1. Select the System tab.
    2. In the space for News server enter: news.cit-news.com
    3. In the space for Mail server enter the name of your services mail server. ( For example: mail.yourisp.com)
      This is needed only for e-mailing replies directly to the sender of a posting.
    4. Click OK.
  9. Refresh your groups list.
    1. From the Online menu select Refresh Groups List.
    2. Select Delete All Extinct Groups.
    3. Click OK.
      This process may take some time depending upon the speed of your connection.
    4. Subscribe to frequently viewed groups.
    1. Select desired group.
    2. From the Group menu select Subscribe.
      The subscribe group will show a newspaper icon if subscribed to.
    3. Repeat this procedure for all desired groups.
    4. To show only the subscribed groups:
      1. From the Group menu select Show then select Subscribed Groups.
  10. Get messages in a group
    1. From the Online menu select Get New Headers in Selected Groups


Reloading articles

  1. Update your groups list to match our servers.
    1. From the Online menu select Refresh Groups List...
    2. In the Refresh Groups List window select Delete All extinct groups
    3. Click OK
      This will begin downloading the groups on our servers. This process may take some time depending upon the speed of your connection.
  2. Select the group(s) that needs to be updated.
  3. From the Online menu select Get All Headers in Selected Groups

    This will begin the synchronizing process. This process may take some time depending upon the speed of your connection.
